Transmission Issues:

“The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while stopped at a light, the engine failed to engage while the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the RPM failed to increase. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the contact needed transmission fluid however, the failure recurred. The contact was concerned that while driving the failure might cause an accident. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,002.”

“The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. While stopped, the vehicle would intermittently stall upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle would restart soon after failure however, recently the vehicle was towed to a dealer after the vehicle failed to restart after multiple attempts. The dealer was unable to duplicate the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.”

“I bought a 2019 Chevy Equinox test car. It had a little over 5000 miles on it. The problem started almost as soon as I got the car. The transmission shifts super hard. When it down shifts it's like the transmission forgets what gear it's in. Sometimes when slowing down the car down shifts to 1st gear and sometimes it only drops down to 4th. Leaving me with no power making turns. I never see a transmission shift this hard. I took it to GM dealership and they say it's normal. I have a extended warranty so if the tranny goes I should be covered. Also the start and stop feature is bullshit. That's going to cause an accident. It's got to be hard on the starter. I did figure out that if you put the car in manual mode and shift to 6th gear. The auto start and stop goes away for awhile. You have to put the car in 6th gear and drive around for a little bit. This disengages the auto start/stop.”

“Started noticing that shifting 2 and 3 was not right, this started as every once in a while we had a "what was that" moment. Now this transmission has been in a constant state of shuddering and trying to figure out what gear it likes. We have been to the local dealer twice for this reason as well as some recalls and its first oil change. I can't believe this is a brand new SUV that goes down the road like a 20 year old pos. I am in the process of getting this back from the dealer again and reaching out to someone at GM corporate. After some searching it seems the 8 speed transmissions were having this exact problem and they are changing the fluid out with a TSB.”

Electrical Problems:

“The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to be started without the key fob inside the vehicle. The key fob was at the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,071.”

“The car was purchased February of 2019. The car has been stalling, car has shut completely down, and the car decrease speed sometimes while on the expressway which can be life-threatening. Not to mention that the radio freezes and the windows also gets stuck sometimes. It was reported to the car lot where the car was purchased as well as GM. the car was taken into Homewood Chevrolet where they stated that it was only a spark plug which is not true. I know that the car is having intermittent problems. They were suppose to an extensive check and I am positive that it was NOT done. There is an electrical and transit engine related issue that is not being addressed”

“IN MY VEHICLE OWNER'S MANUAL (PART NO. 84134729 B), THERE IS AN ERROR ON PAGE 352 WHICH MISIDENTIFIES THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TERMINALS OF A BATTERY USED FOR JUMP STARTING. UNDER THE SUBTITLE, JUMP STARTING - NORTH AMERICA, THE TERMINALS NOTED AS (3) AND (4) SHOULD BE (4) AND (3).”

“THE AUTOSTOP FEATURE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND DID NOT TURN ON WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND I WAS IN A INTERSECTION AND I WAITED FOR TEN MINUTES AND IT TURNED ON AGAIN. THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE COMPUTER WHICH WASN'T WORKING.”

Engine Problems:

“The vehicle is operating on reduced power and shuts of almost immediately. After plugging a scan tool in and reading the codes, it said the crankshaft timing was over advanced and the sensor needed to be changed. I've changed all four sensors (both crank and cam sensors). The engine shows no codes, but when I crank it, it immediately reduces power, shuts off, then shows the same codes. After trying a few times, it says the ECM, MAP sensor, and heat sensors are bad. When I disconnect, then reconnect the battery, it only shows the crank sensor code. The check engine light goes off, but comes on again right before the engine shuts off each time. As a result, the vehicle has been sitting since 10/4/22 due to it shutting off suddenly in traffic. I've had to change the battery twice during this time due to the battery completely dying and a jump start doesn't work.”

“WHILE VEHICLE IS COMING TO A HARD STOP OR OCCASIONALLY WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THERE IS A LOUD NOISE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE AREA. SERVICE CENTER INDICATED THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE BUT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONDITION HAS EXISTED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. SERVICE CENTER INDICATED THE NOISE HEARD IS DUE TO THE TURBO UNIT HITTING THE RADIATOR AND SPECIAL TAPE COULD BE APPLIED TO DAMPED OR ELIMINATE THE NOISE. THE REPAIR WAS $550. BULLETIN 19-NA-098 WAS REFERENCED FROM CHEVY.”

“FOR UNKNOWN REASONS VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A MOTEL GRAVEL PARKING LOT FOR ABOUT 10 HOURS AFTER HAVING BEEN DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 7 HOURS. ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS COMPLETELY CONSUMED BY THE FIRE BEFORE BEING PUT OUT BY FIRE DEPARTMENT.”

“2019 CHEVY EQUINOX TURBO HOSE BLEW OFF. THE RETAINING CLIP FAILED TO PROPERLY HOLD HOSE IN PLACE. THE HOSE BLEW COMPLETELY OFF MAKING A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE THEN IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO LOW POWER MODE. ALL ACCELERATION WAS GONE. LOSS OF POWER CREATED THE RPM'S TO INCREASE WHILE GOING UP HILL THE ENGINE STRUGGLING TO CLIMB.. THE VEHICLE LOST SPEED ALL THE WAY UP THE HILL. THE TURBO WAS USELESS AT THIS POINT. VERY UNSAFE TO SUDDENLY LOSE THAT MUCH POWER TO YOOUR VEHICLE. GM HAS TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. MY LOCAL DEALER IS NOT VERY HELPFUL.”

Brake Problems:

“I was approaching and intersection with a red light and I put my foot on the brakes. The car slowed down but then bucked forward three time until I hit the vehicle in front of me. Been driving for 44 years and never experienced anything like it.”

“I was driving on a main interstate and went to take an off-ramp, I tried to use my brakes to slow down but the peddle was rock hard and couldn’t brake at all.”

“I was driving exiting a school zone going about 35 mph. As I was coming up on a stop sign my brakes went completely out on my 2019 Chevy Equinox, and to avoid hitting kids walking across the sidewalk I ran into a cement wall to stop my car this morning on 9/21. I had it diagnosed twice and both vendors said it was the Vacuum pump brake and they have been seeing many of these cases. I checked the recall and there isn’t one but over 200+ reviews with this exact issue! This is a huge safety issue! People could of been severely hurt today. I called the dealership and they said I need to not get it fixed and wait to file a claim and call product quality claim.”

“While exiting the highway I went to put on my brakes and there were no power brakes. It pedal was stiff and I had to push extremely hard to stop and it took a long time to do so. The brake assist light come on as well. I had no prior warning, noise or any reason to believe that my brakes wouldn’t work. We checked the pads, rotors and brake lines and they were all fine so that’s not the issue. It could have been catastrophic if I had been on the highway still when this happened.”

“While driving on the freeway, the brakes became suddenly stiff and I was unable to stop the vehicle immediately for oncoming traffic. I had to steer away from the road onto the emergency lane and apply the brakes really hard to stop the car. There were no warning messages of any sorts and while trying to stop and start the car several times, then the service brake assist warning with the check engine light came up. I have to take the vehicle for inspection to the checy dealer to know more detailed cause of the issue. I had my wife, a 4 year old and a 4 month old in the car when this happened.”

Steering Problems:

“I own a 2019 Chevy Equinox which has developed an issue with the steering, the same as occurred with earlier models. When driving straight for brief periods of time, the steering resists turning either direction to follow the road changes. The wheel is stiff and requires additional effort to adjust. I only have about 30K miles on my car. This is very uncomfortable and lacks for any feeling of security. This could cause a skid on icy and snowy roads that we have now. I see there is no recall for this but I am very concerned for my wife driving the car. This is now a regular occurrence and at any speed.”

Air Bags Failures:

“I was involved in a car accident where all of the side airbags deployed. On the drivers side just behind the arm rest the airbag that deployed caught on fire and burned all th way through my shirt, jeans and underwear leaving two large burns on my left side. Some areas are 3rd degree.”

“THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE WAS IMPACTED BY HEAVY SNOW/SLUSH THROWN FROM A SNOWPLOW MOVING WESTBOUND ON A CITY STREET AT AN ESTIMATED SPEED OF 40 MPH. MY VEHICLE WAS MOVING EASTBOUND AT ABOUT 35 MPH. “The air bag safety restraint system is faulty on this vehicle. This is a system that should work for a life time for the vehicle but it's already defective. This vehicle once the battery is low or needs jump start, the entire steering controls become loose which may cause serious accidents for unseasonably experienced drivers.”
