Common Problems with the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox

Fuel System, Gasoline Issues:

“The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while idled at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.”

“The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle decelerated independently and lost motive power. The contact's husband pushed the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The contact was unsure whether a warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart but stalled again after several minutes. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump power control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump power control module had failed again and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 3,905.”

“The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.”

Fuel/Propulsion System Issues:

“Fuel module failed and had to be replaced.”

“car has been in shop for replacement of fuel module 4 times. Now was in shop again with failed fuel pump at 9k miles. had loss of power at 70mph on freeway and could have been rear ended. if the fuel loss happens during a left turn could result in a collision. have already reported the first four failures. adding this number 5”

“08/22 car with 3800 miles died slowly while driving. Fuel pump replaced. 06/23 with 11,700 miles died slowly while crossing major highway at peak travel time. Fuel pump failed again. Crash / fatality risk.”

“Fuel Pump Power Control Module failed. My daughter was driving down Carpenter Road in Ypsilanti Michigan when the vehicle stalled and would not start. This is a VERY busy four lane road. The police showed up and helped push her out of the way. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by the dealer. The dealer replaced the part but how do I know that the part is not faulty as well as it appears that there is a potential recall for this vehicle that hasn't been confirmed yet since parts are limited. No warning before the issue happened.”

Engine Problems:

“2022 CHEVROLET EQUINOX-Consumer Privacy Act release form was forwarded from the Alaskan Senators office. Consumer transcribed statement: “Engine on my 2022 Chevy Equinox stopped running twice in January, 2023. After 2nd “pause” it would not restart. Need to go to dealership in Anchorage for fix. No roads, except ferry (Alaska Marine Highway) but they won’t take – no running cars. I shipped to AML via AK Marine Line (barge) and pre-paid charches – finally fixed. 2 ½-3 months later and shpped back via AML barge. Now Chevy says they will not pay shipping up and back. I’m just out all I have paid for. Chevy says won’t pay as no recall issued – but failed to tell me how to get car back and forth to dealership without paying for it myself. We were without car for 3 months! We are retired, only have 1 car and it would not run. Need someone to help me! Call me to get rest of information. I’m not sure if this is something you can assist with. We would greatly appreciate your guidance either way." VIN# listed in letter was not found.”

“While driving at approximately 45-50 miles per hour, the engine completely failed. An Engine Failure/Failed/Reduced Power alert message appeared on the dash at the time of the event and the car lost all power, losing speed and coming to a stop. The road was curbed on both sides with no available shoulder or median to access leaving the vehicle stranded in the right, eastbound lane with continuous traffic approaching from behind. My safety and the safety of others were at risk as I was on a 45mph, 4 lane road, with vehicles approaching quickly from behind and having to change lanes to go around my vehicle and avoid an accident. This could have been catastrophic if I'd been on an interstate or in many other situations. I discovered an email from OnStar Diagnostics that was time stamped at the very time I experienced the incident, 8:02am. The email states "An issue with the Engine and Transmission System in your 2022 Chevrolet Equinox has been detected. Please service your vehicle immediately." Also, it was only about 25 degrees and I was afraid to stay in the car due to the continuous traffic. I purchased this vehicle 3 days ago on Wed, Feb 23 and it has approximately 200 miles on it. There were no symptoms prior to the incident today. The vehicle is currently at Bill Estes Chevrolet in Indianapolis, Indiana and will be looked at this Monday, Feb 28th.”

Brake Problems:

“Since day one rear disc brakes pads rubbing on rotors at all speeds. Yark Chevrolet confirmed. They have no fix.”

“Brakes lost all fluid. This resulted in a loss of function for related systems including adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking. Limited braking capability put my wife and I in danger. The car was less than a week old at the time. The dealer repaired it immediately on Monday morning. Dealer attributed the problem to a loose brake line. The warning lights and e-mail messages came in after the failure.”

Suspension Problems:

“The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH, a rattling noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer on various occasions; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was recurring and that the rattling noise was becoming louder. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.”
