Common Problems with the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado

chevy silverado 2020 problems

Transmission Issues — Shifts Very Hard From A Stop; Transmission Failure; Transmission Slips At Low Speeds, Surges When Braking; Hesitation When Shifting; Slams Into Reverse; Trans Temp Is Too High.

Electrical System Problems:

“Already paid for transmission repair and now paying for engine wiring harness. Service update was sent out to dealer in May of 2020 to fix issues before selling vehicle. That was not done.”

“Electrical acutated tailgate will not come down. The truck came with a soft bed cover that locks. If my child was to hide in the bed somehow it would pose an immediate risk to life and health as the tailgate will not come down and does not have any type of manual override. The interior controls do not work to lower the tailgate, the key fob controls do not work to lower the tailgate.”

“I keep getting battery saver activated. I go to start my truck and it will not start. On dash says battery saver activated. I have had in the dealer 4 times and it keep happening. I also have had the power steering go out while driving. This has only happened once and after a couple hours it started working again but seems very dangerous.”

Engine Problems:

“The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the emission system warning light and the throttle control warning light were illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle shuddered while being started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the spark plugs and made several other unknown repairs. The dealer also informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.”

“Lifters are failing. This is an ongoing problem with GM engines. They used faulty parts and engines are failing and nothing is being done about it.”

“The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH, the engine started shuddering. The message "Reduced Power" was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and failed to restart. The contact pushed the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after a while. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the camshaft intake actuator screws had detached, and the engine and turbocharger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 77,200.”

“I purchased this truck new and it's now been back 8 times for a engine hesitation, misfire, and check-engine light. On this 8th visit, they replaced the "right bank" of lifters on this 5.3L V8. Previous visits have replaced fuel injectors, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and flashed the ECM. I'm not sure why GM didn't replace the left bank of lifters if it's a known bad part (or replaced the engine entirely). Now I'm just waiting for the problem to come back for a 9th time for yet another part to replaced on an obviously poor engine design.”

Steering Problems:

“The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated when she started the vehicle and attempted to shift into reverse(R) there was an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel was locked. The contact was unable to turn the steering wheel. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle regained power steering functionality. The contact stated that the loss of power steering had occurred once. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.”

“While driving down the interstate hi-way, I heard a pop and my truck started to swerve into the adjoining lane. I turned the steering wheel in the opposite direction and the truck started making a rubbing sound and very hard to steer. I finally got it to the side of the hi-way and seen my passenger side front wheel leaning in. The upper balljoint/control arm broke. Luckily no-one was in the lane next to me or it would have caused a serious crash.”

“Power steering failure upon starting truck. Wheel did not turn. Dash message said Esc and power steering malfunction. Restart car multiple times with same issue. Wait a few hours and start car - no warnings or power steering issues. Went to Chevrolet dealership and was told no codes had been triggered and to bring back when issue arises again.”

Brakes Problems:

“Was riding down the road and my front left caliber locked up had break fluid running down from the upper reservoir the truck only has 46,000 miles. the truck was immobile had to have it towed and had to get a new caliber and took the shop almost a week to get air out the system breaks are still not 100 percent also rear breaks are having a problem fully releasing as well. Leaves me worried the rear breaks will seize up as well cost me 1000 dollars for the repairs”

“Trailer brake controls not working. Safety at risk due to electric trailer brakes not working. Other lights and functions work when trailer plugged in.”

“The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the trailer disconnected from the tow hitch. Additionally, the trailer brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and brake switch was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to GM PIT: 5948A. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.”
