Common Problems with the 2017 Chrysler 200

2017 chrysler 200 problems

Powertrain, Transmission Issues:

“The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler 200. While driving at low speeds, the service transmission shifter warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the emergency brakes unintentionally engaged and the contact was unable to move the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the failure previously occurred and the shifter was replaced. The vehicle was towed to woody folsom Ford (1633 golden isles w, baxley, ga 31513, (912) 367-2466), but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.”

“A multitude of different issues with the transmission; transmission will experience delayed shifts (or delays when shifting into reverse, drive or any other gear then vehicle will clunk into gear), harsh shifting, random down shifting while driving and slamming into gear, squeaking noise when shifting from reverse to drive. Took the vehicle into the dealership for servicing where they looked over, they noticed the issues and ran software updates on my shifter and for the transmission. The problem still persisted so the tech contacted fca and they informed the dealership that "it's supposed to do that." This is not the norm of any transmission.”

“I purchased a 2017 Chrysler 200 limited from Steve Lander's Chrysler Dodge jeep on February 12, 2018. On February 24,2018 I had to return my vehicle to my vehicle accelerating on it's own when my foot was removed from the brake pedal. Upon accelerating my gas gusher would drop a not h each time. February 23, 2018 my vehicle did an update that night; that at when it started. I called the dealership the same night and talk with Emil, the finance manager. He told me to bring it in the next day. Which was February 24, 2018. My I was told it was ready one week later so I go to pick it up. The problem wasn't fixed. I left it there. I received a phone call from Melinda saying a technician drove my car and the transmission slammed so hard the tech thought it fell out the vehicle. So my transmission was replaced. So I picked my car up in April 2018; one week later it is jerking as I drive down a hill. Them again in a flat parking lot. So I called the dealership to return it and they couldn't get it to duplicate what it was doing. So Melinda calls and tells me to pick my car up and if I keep having problems return it. My car is still jerking and at 38-42 it changes gears roughly. *tt”

Electrical System Problems:

“When I go to start the car with either fob I sometimes get a message "can not identify fob. What happens if I'm going down the road at 70mph and it cuts off because it can't identify fob. This car is 41 months old and has approx. 33,000 miles. So far the car was still when the problem occurred next time I may be moving.. this has happened about 10 time in the last 6 months with both fob's.”

Engine Troubles:

“Car shuts off without warning when driving”

“The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer Robert Loehr Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram SRT and Fiat (567 E main St, Cartersville, ga 30121, (770) 382-58850) and then to atlanta West Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (1251 Thornton Rd, lithia springs, ga 30122, (770) 942-1102) where a diagnostic test was still pending. The manufacturer was informed of failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.”

“Vehicle started to stall today while driving. It stalled multiple times and one point it stalled entering a major road. It also has a kick in the engine while driving like it's changing gear. This is ridiculous if this being going on with other for these model for a while why are they still being sold. The car is only 49000 miles now I have to find money to repair”

“My 2017 Chrysler 200, that I purchased on October 8, 2018 has started to just shut down while I'm driving, with no warning. This is extremely dangerous especially in the type of busy traffic that I drive in, daily. I'm thankful that the times it did shut off, it happened in my neighborhood, while I was slowing down to stop at a stop sign, and before I'd gotten into heavy traffic. It shut down on December 20, 2019 at a stop sign, and the exact same thing happened again on December 22, 2019. Both times, it didn't restart immediately when I pressed the start button. It stalled for a moment the first time, and perhaps 2 minutes the second time. I turned on my emergency blankers the 2nd time it happened, and I let other drivers know to go around me because it took a little longer to restart. This isn't safe, nor is it good for me as a consumer. That's why I bought an almost new car so I wouldn't have issues such as this while driving.”

Air Bag Problems:

“Airbag warning light came on intermittently at first the remained on. Vehicle was taken to the dealer to be checked on 9/2/21. Dealer stated passenger seat airbag wiring harness was defective and replaced at a cost of $1179.29. 1/18/23 Airbag warning light steadily on. Dealer advised driver side airbag squib harness connector pins open. Replaced harness at no charge due to second incident with harness.”

“Airbag Warning Light came on intermittently at first and then remainder on. Vehicle taken to dealer to be checked on 9/2/21. Service department on 9/3/21 stated passenger seat wiring harness for airbags was defective and required replacement, Chrysler part #68395045-AA. They advised part was on backorder and it may take about 4 months to arrive.”
