Honda Odyssey and Pilot Class Action Regarding Infotainment

A putative class class action was filed on March 22, 2019 in Federal Court in California concerning 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys and 2019 Honda Pilots and their defective infotainment systems. At bottom, the class action alleges:

the Vehicles’ infotainment systems frequently freeze or crash (in which case no features connected to system are operational, including the navigation technology, the radio, and the rearview camera). These malfunctions pose a safety risk because when the system malfunctions, unexpected audio or video – or a blank or blue infotainment screen – can cause the driver to become distracted. The defect can also render safety-related systems (including backup camera functions) to fail.

The class action complaint goes on to allege that thousands of other owners of these Honda vehicles experienced these same issues, as evinced by consumer complaints on NHTSA.gov. TSB’s commonly applied to try to repair this problem (to no avail) are:

  1. TSB 16-022

  2. TSB 17-048

  3. TSB 17-049

  4. TSB 16-090

Interestingly enough, the class action complaint should have included other vehicles potentially, since they also employ the same infotainment system. Those vehicles are:

  1. 2016-2017 Honda Civic

  2. 2016-2017 Honda Accord

The Honda Infotainment Class Action Lawsuit is titled Conti v. American Honda Motor Co, Inc, Case No.2:19-cv-02160, in the U.S. District Court for the District of California.
