2019 Volkswagen Jetta and 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Transmission Problems

A class action was recently filed against Volkswagen regarding transmission issues in the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta and 2018-2019 Volkswagen Tiguan. The problems arise from the Aisin AWF8F35 8-speed automatic transmissions, which suffer complete failures caused by broken seals and oil leaks Owners have complained of

  1. Transmission lockups

  2. Grinding sounds emanating from the transmission

  3. Acceleration Problems

  4. Growling noises coming from the transmission.

Apparently, VW knows about the issue since they’ve released over fifteen different TSB’s to VW dealerships to try to help dealerships repair the problem, however it appears one hasn’t been found yet. Here is an example of one of the TSB’s sent to VW dealerships.

If you’re having issues with your Jetta or Tiguan, it would be best to take it to a dealership within the warranty period to have VW update the transmission to repair the problem.
