2019 VW Jetta and 2018-2020 Tiguan Transmission Class Action Settlement News

It looks like there is finally some news regarding the class action settlement for owners of 2019 Volkswagen Jettas and 2018-2020 Volkswagen Tiguan who experienced transmission issues. Because of that, owners of those vehicles should be on the lookout for either postcards or an actual letter that may be delivered to them via USPS mail hopefully by August 26, 2022.

The Volkswagen class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of a class of all purchasers or lessees of any model year 2019 Volkswagen Jetta or model year 2018-2020 Volkswagen Tiguan equipped with an Aisin AWF8F35 8-Speed Automatic Transmission and sold in the United States. Volkswagen Tiguan and Jetta owners have reported hard shifting, hesitation and grinding noises in their vehicle. When they attempt to accelerate, their vehicle may intermittently jerk.

Per the settlement agreement (accessible here), owners of those vehicles may be entitled to:

  1. A warranty extension for transmission issues of 12 months or 12,000 miles

  2. Reimbursement of certain past unreimbursed repair expenses, depending on the date of repair and whether it was performed at an authorized VW dealership.

Please note, we are not legal counsel for the Class in the Parrish action, nor are we the settlement administrator.

The last day to remove yourself from the class action settlement is September 26, 2022. If you don’t take affirmative steps to opt out of the class action, you will be bound to the terms of the settlement, which may not be a good thing depending on your vehicle’s mileage and if you’ve already had transmission work done at a dealership.
