Nissan CVT Class Action Settlement Update
If you own or previously leased a 2015–2018 Nissan Murano or a 2016–2018 Nissan Maxima equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), you may be entitled to compensation under a recent class action settlement.
⚖️ Overview of the Nissan CVT Class Action Settlement
A class action lawsuit filed in October 2022 alleged that certain Nissan Murano and Maxima vehicles were equipped with defective CVTs, leading to performance issues and potential transmission failures. While Nissan denies any wrongdoing, the company has agreed to a settlement to resolve these claims.
🚗 Who Is Eligible?
You may be part of the settlement class if you purchased or leased, in the United States or its territories before April 4, 2025, a:
2015–2018 Nissan Murano
2016–2018 Nissan Maxima
These vehicles must be equipped with a CVT.
💰 Settlement Benefits
1. Warranty Extension
Nissan will extend the New Vehicle Limited Warranty for the transmission assembly (including the valve body and torque converter) and the Automatic Transmission Control Unit (ATCU) to 84 months or 84,000 miles, whichever comes first, from the vehicle’s original in-service date.
2. Reimbursement for Prior Repairs
If you paid out-of-pocket for qualifying transmission repairs after the original warranty expired but within the extended warranty period:
Repairs at Nissan dealerships: Full reimbursement of parts and labor.
Repairs at non-Nissan facilities: Reimbursement up to $5,000 per repair.
Multiple qualifying repairs are eligible for reimbursement.
3. $1,500 Voucher Toward a New Vehicle
Owners or lessees who had two or more qualifying transmission repairs or replacements during their ownership may receive a $1,500 voucher toward the purchase or lease of a new Nissan or Infiniti vehicle. This voucher must be used within nine months of the settlement's effective date and is non-transferable.
📝 Important Deadlines
Claim Submission Deadline: July 3, 2025, or within 30 days of a qualifying repair, whichever is later.
Exclusion/Objection Deadline: June 3, 2025.
Final Approval Hearing: Scheduled for July 18, 2025.
