2019 - 2020 Nissan Altima Warranty Extension For Active Grill

Nissan just announced a warranty extension for owners of 2019-2020 Altima regarding the active grille shutter assemblies.

What is the active grill radiator shutter assembly, you ask? We had to research it, too. But essentially it optimizes the Nissan’s aerodynamics and coolant temperatures by using electronically controlled slats to control airflow through the grill radiator and engine compartment. Which sounds incredibly fancy, but sophisticated enough to break easily. Hence the warranty extension.

The warranty extension is for 15 Years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first and applies if the 2019 - 2020 Altima active grille shutter causes a warning light or diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P059F and/or P159F.

Nissan says:

On affected vehicles, over time, the shaft connecting the grille shutter motor and shutter louvers may become twisted and/or cracked resulting in the shutter remaining closed and illumination of the malfunction indicator light (MIL). This issue will have no effect on vehicle safety or drivability, but the vehicle may experience reduced fuel efficiency.
