Honda Odyssey, Pilot and Passport Finally Recalled for Back Up Camera Failures - Lemon Law

Honda is (finally) recalling nearly 1.2 million vehicles due to blank rearview camera display screens, for which Honda received about 274,000 warranty claims (meaning that over 274,000 Honda owners went to a dealership, complained about this issue, and Honda had to replace some camera component at no charge).

Due to defective Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) communication coaxial cable connectors, the 2018–2023 Honda Odyssey, 2019–2022 Honda Pilot, and 2019–2023 Honda Passport minivans and SUVs have been recalled.

Federal safety regulations are broken by backup camera displays that are black or blank.

Honda claims that the communication coaxial cable's distorted terminals were caused by improper design and manufacturing of the cable. The audio display unit and the vehicle cable connector may not connect properly or at all if the cables are distorted.

If there is a communication break for longer than 20 seconds, the Honda rearview camera will stop working when the car is in reverse.

In February 2019, Honda noticed a potential trend in audio issues and flickering display screens, which led to the discovery of the backup camera issue. After conducting an assessment, the supplier of media-oriented systems transport terminals started modifying the terminals and cable length to strengthen the connection.
