General Motors Diesel Fuel Pump Class Action Lawsuit Settlement Finalized

General Motors (GM) has finalized a significant class action lawsuit settlement concerning defective CP4 high-pressure fuel pumps installed in certain diesel trucks. This development is particularly relevant for owners and former owners of 2011–2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks equipped with 6.6L Duramax engines. If you purchased one of these vehicles from a GM-authorized dealership in California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania, or Texas between March 1, 2010, and September 13, 2024, you may be eligible for compensation.

🔧 The Issue: CP4 Fuel Pump Failures

The lawsuit, Chapman v. General Motors LLC, alleged that the Bosch CP4 fuel pumps used in these trucks were incompatible with American diesel fuel standards. This incompatibility purportedly led to premature wear, generating metal shavings that contaminated the fuel injection system, resulting in engine failures and costly repairs. GM denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a settlement to avoid prolonged litigation.

💰 Settlement Details

The settlement provides various forms of compensation:

  • Reimbursement for Past Repairs: Owners who paid out-of-pocket for CP4 fuel pump repairs may receive between $6,356 and $12,712, depending on the number of claims filed.

  • Compensation for Former Owners: Individuals who no longer own the affected vehicles and did not pay for repairs may be eligible for payments ranging from $400 to $800.

  • Partial Reimbursement for Future Repairs: Current owners who incur CP4 fuel pump repair costs on or after May 6, 2025, at GM-authorized dealerships may receive 50% reimbursement. This partial warranty coverage lasts until May 6, 2026, or until the vehicle reaches 200,000 miles, whichever comes first.
