Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue Recall: Instrument Panel Screens May Go Blank
What’s the Problem
Owners of the 2024 Acura ZDX and 2024 Honda Prologue electric SUVs may experience a dangerous issue where the vehicle’s instrument panel and infotainment displays suddenly go blank while driving.
According to federal safety filings, a software defect may cause the vehicle’s display systems to crash or restart, leaving drivers without access to critical information such as:
Speedometer readings
Warning lights and safety alerts
Indicator lamps and vehicle status messages
Rearview camera display when reversing
Without these displays functioning, drivers may lose situational awareness about their vehicle’s speed or safety warnings, increasing the risk of a crash.
The problem affects both Acura and Honda versions of these EV SUVs because the vehicles share underlying technology and display software.
Allegations
The issue centers on defects within the vehicle’s Radio Control Module software, which manages communication between the vehicle’s display systems and other electronic components.
According to recall documents submitted to federal regulators:
The software contains six separate defects that can cause processing errors.
When triggered, the system may crash or restart, causing the instrument cluster and infotainment display to go blank.
The malfunction can occur while the vehicle is in operation, including while driving on public roads.
Drivers rely on the instrument cluster to display critical vehicle information, including speed and warning indicators. If the display fails, the driver may not be able to monitor essential vehicle data.
Additionally, the infotainment screen is responsible for displaying the rearview camera image when the vehicle is in reverse. If that image fails to appear, the driver’s ability to safely back up may be reduced.
Recall / TSB
Honda and Acura have issued a safety recall affecting approximately 65,000 electric SUVs in the United States.
The recall includes:
2024 Acura ZDX
2024 Honda Prologue
Production dates for affected vehicles range from late 2023 through early 2025.
According to regulators:
The defect stems from software errors in the Radio Control Module.
The failure may cause both the instrument cluster and infotainment display to stop functioning.
The condition may occur intermittently and sometimes resolve temporarily after restarting the vehicle.
To address the issue, dealerships will install updated software for the vehicle’s display control system at no cost to owners.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning in April 2026.
Symptoms
Owners of affected Acura ZDX or Honda Prologue vehicles may notice the following symptoms:
Instrument cluster display suddenly goes blank
Speedometer disappears while driving
Warning lights or indicators fail to appear
Infotainment screen shuts off or restarts
Rearview camera image fails to display in reverse
Screens temporarily recover after restarting the vehicle
Any loss of the instrument cluster while driving should be treated as a serious safety concern.
How to Proceed
If you own or lease a 2024 Acura ZDX or Honda Prologue, consider taking the following steps:
Document Issues: Keep detailed records of all repairs and communications with the manufacturer. While at the dealership, ensure that all of your complaints are noted in the work order that you receive when you first drop off your vehicle.
Reasonable Number of Repair Attempts: While the law doesn't specify an exact number, generally, if the same problem persists after four or more repair attempts, or if the vehicle is out of service for more than 30 days cumulatively, it may qualify as a "lemon."
Monitor Symptoms: Any new engine noises, warning lights, or loss of power? Stop driving immediately and seek inspection and let the dealership know.
Contact Valero Law: If repairs fail, or if you experience repeated issues, you may be entitled to relief under California law. Remedies can include a repurchase of the vehicle or a cash settlement.
