Ford Recalls 1.4 Million Cars for Steering Wheels that Risk Detaching

If you don't want the steering wheel in your Ford Fusion to detach, please keep reading.

Ford is recalling nearly 1.4 million Fusions and MKZ's with steering wheels that risk detaching.   Ford says it had tied two accidents and one injury to the defect.

Dealers at no cost will replace the steering-wheel bolts on affected vehicles with longer ones featuring more robust thread engagement and a larger nylon patch aimed at preventing the parts from loosening. Roughly 1.3 million of the affected vehicles are in the U.S., with the rest in Canada and Mexico.

The affected models are the Ford Fusion and the Lincoln MKZ, both from model years 2014-2018, namely:

  • 2014-17 Fusions built in Flat Rock, Mich., from Aug. 6, 2013, to Feb. 29, 2016.
  • 2014-18 Fusions and MKZs built in Hermosillo, Mexico, from July 25, 2013, to March 5, 2018.

NHTSA hasn't updated their information with the recall number or the accompanying notices from Ford, but as soon as they do I'll update this page.
