General Motors Oil Consumption Problems With Vortec Engine

Similar to the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain Oil Consumption cases that have previously been written about,  a new General Motors class action lawsuit alleges oil consumption problems plague the vehicles because of defective piston rings equipped in Vortec engines.

The GM Vortec class action lawsuit includes these vehicles equipped with Generation IV 5.3-Liter V8 Vortec 5300 LC9 engines.

  • 2010-2014 Chevrolet Silverado

  • 2010-2014 Chevrolet Suburban

  • 2010-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe

  • 2010-2014 GMC Sierra

  • 2010-2014 GMC Yukon

  • 2010-2014 GMC Yukon XL

Similar to the Equinox’s and Terrains, the piston rings are to blame, as well as the active fuel management system. The allegedly defect components cause low levels of oil, poor lubrication and, ultimately, internal engine damage due to lack of lubrication. Essentially, if you’ve ever noticed that your GM vehicle is running sluggishly or you have to keep putting oil into it, even after you just changed the oil, then you’re probably impacted by the Vortec issue. It can also impact the catalytic converter as well.
