Chevrolet Bolt Recall for Battery Gets Worse

chevrolet bolt recall fire

This is now the SEVENTH (7th) time that we’ve written about the Chevrolet Bolt and its problematic battery that can spontaneously catch fire. Believe it or not, the problem has gotten even worse.

GM is now recalling ALL Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles sold worldwide to fix a battery problem that could cause fires, expanding a previous recall. Last month, GM told Chevrolet Bolt owners to park outdoors and not charge them overnight after two vehicles repaired in the earlier recall caught fire. The GM recall announced Friday adds about 73,000 Bolts from the 2019 through 2022 model years to a previous recall of 69,000 older Bolts. GM said that in rare cases the batteries have two manufacturing defects that can cause fires.

GM said owners should limit charging to 90% of battery capacity. The Bolts, including a new SUV, also should be parked outdoors until the modules are replaced. See also Chevrolet lemon law.
