GM Advising Chevrolet Bolt Owners to Park on Top Floors and 50 Feet Away from other Vehicles

Chevrolet Bolt owners are not through the woods yet, unfortunately.

According to a report from Reuters, General Motors is now advising Chevy Bolt owners to park on the top floors of parking garages or open decks, and park at least 50-feet away from other vehicles. This comes as the automaker tries to fix a battery defect that has caused a small number of Bolt EV models to catch fire, which we’ve written about extensively here.

The precaution would "reduce potential damage to structures and nearby vehicles in the rare event of a potential fire," a company spokesman said in an email. GM sent a notice to consumers who had asked about parking issues, he added.

The Chevy Bolt recall includes every 2017-2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and 2022 Bolt EUV. Furthermore, a GM spokesman said the replacement Bolt EV batteries will be covered by 8-year/100,000-mile warranties.
